We make sure your dental appointments are always as convenient and comfortable as possible. We stay on the cutting edge of technology to make sure you get the best patient-centered dental care. We offer digital scan impressions as an alternative to traditional impressions.
A common complaint about traditional impressions is they’re uncomfortable and have an unpleasant taste. And, because of this, many patients gag while we take their impressions. For you to have a comfortable and convenient experience, we opt for the new, digital scan impressions.
So What Are Traditional Impressions?
Traditional impressions work like this: you bite into a tray filled with a rubber-like substance called siloxane, leaving imprints of your teeth. Usually with traditional impressions, you are stuck biting down on this weird substance for 4 to 5 minutes. Needless to say, patients aren’t crazy about this process.
iTero Digital Impressions
The iTero computer creates fully digital tooth impressions to eliminate the annoying, yucky process of a traditional impression. Your dentist uses a wand to take several photographs of your teeth. The iTero machine knits these images together into a digital 3-D simulation of your mouth. It’s a much faster and more comfortable procedure than a traditional impression.
Your dentist can rotate the final image and view it from many perspectives for a more comprehensive understanding of how we can help you. And you’ll never have to deal with that gross rubber substance in your mouth again!
Alginate Impressions
Alginate impressions are sometimes taken instead of digital when we just need basic models of the teeth, like when making a bite guard. This does require you to bite down but only requires 30 seconds of your time, as opposed to five minutes. Either way, we have an easier way to get your tooth impressions to save you time and keep you comfortable!
When Are Impressions Necessary?
We use digital impressions to fit and align:
- Crowns
- Bridges
- Dentures & Partial Dentures
- Invisalign
- Bite Guards
- Diagnostic Models
In these procedures, having the ability to perform digital impressions is a big advantage for the comfort of patient and the improved accuracy of the final result.
