Intraoral Camera Technology at Smile Sensations Dental

The intraoral camera technology is probably the most commented on and complimented piece of equipment in the dental office. We want patients to know, and most patients want to know, what is going on in their mouth.

Though not a replacement for x-rays, a visual examination with intraoral pictures not only is a great communications tool for the dentist, many times the enlarged image produced by the camera serves as a great magnification tool for both the dentist and the patient. What may look innocent to the eye, has its true nature revealed when photographed and magnified.

Smaller than the head of a dental mirror, we can capture images that will provide us with a dental history of a tooth or teeth. A photo taken of a filling or small crack line we have been observing for a couple of years can be compared with the image from when we first began the observation, giving us either reassurance we should continue on that watchful path, or sometimes that it is now time for action to be taken.

We take images of the blue-gray tint seen around silver amalgam fillings, a sure sign of decay, as well as crack lines, actual fractured off areas of teeth, broken fillings, and even soft tissue lesions we want to document or show the patient.

The intraoral camera allows you to be an active partner in your dental treatment by enabling you to see what we see inside your mouth. With a clear understanding of your dental conditions, you’ll be able to make treatment decisions with confidence.
